Upcoming questioning Cat Cafe based documentary, Catpawcino, soon to be released.

Pixel Productions UK is soon to release their latest production, an interesting new documentary exploring the developing contemporary world of cat cafes and digs deep beneath the surface to investigate if they are as cute as they look at first glance, or beautified tourist cruelty shops.

Filmed by Alicia Sagar, Jade Cook, Ollie Bensley & Sophie Gellender, Catpawcino is set to stir up a few questions in viewers minds. The documentary will feature footage from the residential cats at varying cafe’s point of view, the aim of this is to help the viewers decide how life in a cat cafe must feel for the long term residents.

Cat Cafe’s are a huge growing trend worldwide, after starting in Taiwan at “Cat Flower Garden” in 1998. The idea was that the stress of urban life can be relieved by spending a few moments with a hot drink and lots of feline company. Since then, their popularity has boomed across the planet and they have now travelled overseas to populate the United Kingdom, but even if they relieve stress for people, do they cause the cats themselves stress?

Catpawcino aims to document this new trend across three of many cat cafe’s in the UK. The cafe’s will be two recently opened cafes, including one which was crowdfunded, and one of the original UK Cat Cafe’s. Catpawcino aims to question their very existence, after well known animal welfare charities spoke out against them, after previously terming them “a gimmick to sell coffee”.

This documentary aims to provide both sides of the controversial issue, from the more than displeased charities and then from the people who work at and also pay to use the cat cafe’s themselves. Catpawcino aims to allow the audience to breathe and question the whole spreading concept for themselves as it progresses, and let the viewers decide if the charities are making a fuss over nothing or have a hugely valid point.

Is cruelty hiding in our high streets? And are these new venues beneficial to both cat and visitor alike?
